The Hermetica…The Being of Atum

The Hermetica…The Being of Atum

God is Oneness. Everything is a part of one Supreme Being. Like the number one, which is the source of all subsequent numbers, God is the source of all. Yet just as when the number one is divided or multiplied by itself it remains one, so God constantly remains the Oneness.

Because he unites every thing, his nature is paradoxical. He is the creator who creates himself. He is always hidden from us, yet he has no particular name, because all names refer to him.

God is the Supreme mind. He is everywhere and always. The human mind is an image of the Supreme Mind. Through the power of the imagination it can roam the universe and be, like God, in all times and all places. Hermes tells us that if we truly understood the extraordinary power of the human mind, we would then know the nature of God.

Everything exists as an idea within the Mind of God. He creates all things, in the same way that our own minds create thoughts. Just as the nature of mind is to think, so the nature of God is to create. This is not something he did at the beginning of time. he is doing it continuously. God is ‘constantly creating creation’, and will never stop.

God is both the material objects around us and the immaterial thoughts in our minds. The world we see and sense is an illusion, however, compared to the great ideas which only exist in the mind. Above all are the ideas of Goodness and Beauty. These qualities belong to God alone. They can at best be found imperfectly in the material world, but exist in all their perfection in the immaterial world of the mind. They are so perfect that God is in love with them. God is in love with himself.

The Hermetica...The Mind of God

The Hermetica...The Mind of God

At the heart of Hermes’ teachings is one simple idea – God is a Big Mind. Everything which exists is a thought within the Mind of God. This blog is a thought in the Mind of God. Your body is a thought in the Mind of God. These ideas which are being discussed are thoughts in the Mind of God. How can we understand this?

Consider for a moment your own experience. Thoughts and feelings exist within your mind. You know the outer world around you because your senses give you information which you also then experience within your mind. When your mind is completely unconscious, you don’t experience anything. Ultimately, everything that exists in your life is a thought within your mind. Your mind, however, is limited by being trapped in a physical body. Imagine for a moment that it is not. Imagine that it is free to be conscious of everything, at all times and in all places. Then everything that is, has been, and will be, would exist as a thought within your mind. This is the nature of God’s Mind. He is not limited by a physical body. He is the big mind within which everything exists.

Hermes describes the Mind of God as the Oneness which unites everything. What does that mean? Again, look at your own experience. You experience many different things with your mind. Right now you are reading this blog. Before that you may have been eating, or walking in the country. Yet all of these different things are experienced by one thing – your mind. It is the Oneness that unites all of your experience. In the same way, God’s Mind is the Oneness which unites everything.

Hermes says that this Oneness contains all opposites. This paradox can be understood by once more looking at the nature of your own mind. Some things you experience are hot and others cold; some are bright and others dark; some you call good and others bad. Nothing that you experience can be both cold and hot, because they are opposites. Yet both cold and hot are experiences which you have. Your mind is the one thing which contains all opposites.

Hermes teaches that the mind of a human being is made in the image of God’s Big Mind. If we can free our mind from the limitations imposed by the physical body, we can experience the Mind of God. We were created with the specific purpose of learning to do this. This is the spiritual goal of human life. To reach this destination we must expand our awareness. We must use the power of our little minds to reach out to God’s Big Mind.

To help us do this, Hermes narrates a dramatic story of how God creates and maintains the cosmos. It is through appreciating the awesome beauty of the cosmos and understanding the fundamental laws by which it functions, that we can come to know the Mind of God. It was this vision which fired the imaginations of the great minds of history. It inspired the birth of science by encouraging them to explore the Mind of God by seeking to discover more of how the universe works. Some great modern scientists, such as Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking, still describe science as an attempt to understand ‘the Mind of God’. The Hermetic philosophy places man at the very centre of God’s creation. Hermes declares that ‘man is a marvel’. With his mind he may not only understand the universe, but even come to know God. He is not a mortal body which will live and die. He is an immortal soul which, through the experience of a spiritual rebirth, may become a god.

The Biology of Belief

The Biology of Belief

While I was attending Life West Chiropractic College in Northern California, I had the pleasure of coming across a course that in addition to using different terminologies that validated the concepts that I already believed in, it ultimately changed my perspective on the Biology and the behavior of living organisms in the context of their environment.

The course was Fractal Biology, a name that I originally was not familiar with.  As a Biology major I became interested in knowing more about it.  I became more and more interested and decided to register for the course.

Every student spoke with great excitement and a deep sense of enthusiasm when it came to the topic of the class which was always filled to capacity with some people standing in the back of the room.  There were no exam requirements and even though no attendance was taken and no students were under any obligation to attend this night class, students could not wait be present at the class.

The course was taught by the then unknown, internationally renowned research scientist, Cell Biologist, author and University Professor, Dr. Bruce Lipton.  His teachings and the way he communicated the topics to the students was done energetically and with a lot of passion.  At the time, many students including myself were encouraging him to write a book.  We all saw a huge potential in him.

Dr. Lipton was on the faculty of the University of Wisconsin’s School of Medicine and later performed groundbreaking stem-cell research at Stanford University.  He is the best-selling author of the book, The Biology of Belief and has received the 2009 prestigious Goi Peace Award (Japan) in honor of his scientific contribution to world.

He uses the concepts of Quantum Physics and integrates them into his understanding of how the cells work both individually and the way they behave collectively in a community of cells.  And he strongly believes that our genes are not the only responsible factor for our behavior.  He strongly suggests that a living being responses and behaves to the signals coming from its environment.  And the environment can actually override the genetics or the DNA.

Dr. Bruce Lipton explains that the cells of our body, both at the individual level and collectively in a community of cells, can exist only in two different states.  1. Growth or 2. Protection.  They cannot possibly exist in both states at the same time.  It’s either Growth or protection.  It takes energy both to grow and to protect yourself.  The way the cells perceive the signals that come from the environment is what determines whether the cell is in the state of Growth or protections.

The Growth state promotes health and wellbeing, while the Protection state promotes fear and system shut down.

As an example, when you’re thirsty, you drink water.  That is considered a Growth response.  But if on your way to get water a lion shows up right in front of you, even though your body is saying that it is thirsty and you need water to grow, it’s no longer a wise decision for you to go to the water and satisfy your thirst.  Instead you get into a state of fear and get ready to run away.  While in the protection states, you can no longer think in a logical manner.  The blood from the Brain and the viscera, move towards the somatic system or the hands and the feet, in order to help us run away from danger and protect ourselves.

The most powerful Growth promoting signal in the environment is Love.  Love is the opposite of fear.  It’s an energy that creates harmony.  It is felt in the body every time it is experienced.  When the cells of the body received the signal of Love, they get into the most powerful state of Growth.

In the orphanages, there is staff, food, bed, clothes, medicine, etc…  The only thing they don’t have is love.  The studies show that their Growth and development is significantly lower than the kids who are under the care of their loving parents.

We are constantly being bombarded by signals coming from our environment.  Our behavior is determined by the way we perceive or interpret these signals.  Signals are received from the environment and recorded by the subconscious mind.  Our subconscious mind is like a tape recorder.  Music is put into the machine and played back.  You hear the music and perceive it as bad.  Then you tell the player to stop the music.  But the tape recorder doesn’t have ears.  It is programmed to keep playing the music.

All of our everyday behaviors are programmed tapes that have been recorded by environmental stimuli and played back by the tape recorder.  In case you don’t like the music, you would not be able to stop it.  The tape recorder does not have a rational mind.  It plays every time a button is pushed.  Just like the expression, “You push my buttons”.  We can yell and argue with the tape player all we want, but it won’t listen.  It’s just a tape.

The way out of this loop is not to use the pre programmed tapes or the subconscious mind, but instead it's by using our conscious mind.  You can change the tape but in no way you can force it to change.

Behaviors that come from your genetic programming are in your “nature”.  Other behaviors are learned and are called ‘nurture”.  Nurture can override nature.  For example a child is born, the parents may be afraid if the kid goes near the water.  They panic every time that happens.  The child eventually makes the connection that, ‘Every time I go near the water, my parents freak out”.   Conclusion:  “Water is dangerous to your life”.   And when he’s 4 years old, his parent may throw him into the water.  And even though it is in the child’s nature and genetic programming to swim, the child is not able to swim.  Nurture can reprogram or override nature.

Almost every day to day behavior that you exercise are tapes.  It’s like being on automatic pilot.  When your consciousness travels to the future or the past, rather than being in the present moment, then it is the subconscious that is operating.

The cells in the community respond to a central voice.  The central voice is the tape that you’ve recorded.  This voice organizes your Biology.  The cells have no choice but to listen to the voice.  However, the central voice may not always be accurate.

There are so many debilitating programs that you’ve picked up that you don’t even know you have, since you were not conscious when the tape was being made.

For example, someone with a programmed central voice that says, “You Are Not Good Enough” goes to compete in the school’s track team.  His first race he is ahead of everyone.  The central voice says, “You’re not good enough and yet you are winning”.  Then he stumbles and falls down and thinks it was an accident.

The subconscious mind is the tape recorder playing the central voice.   In order to take control of the central voice you need to run the show Live rather than playing the tape from the subconscious.  This is called, “Free Will”.  When you don’t have consciousness, you play the tapes and there is no free will.  Your buttons are pushed and the tapes are played.  In their daily lives, people don’t tend to often use consciousness and they mostly become the victim of tapes.

We cannot expect a change to occur when the consciousness commands the subconscious mind.  You simply cannot talk to a tape recorder with no ears and no logic.  Dr. Bruce Lipton suggests ways to reprogram your tapes through Energy psychology and hypnotherapy.

Dr. Bruce Lipton’s main message is that he believes that collectively as a population we’ve been disempowered by science and the outside world.  We’ve been told that we are the victims of our genes, that we are machines and have little to no control over our lives.  He believes this to be far from the truth and that we are powerful beings.

We are all cells in a larger organism called the humanity.  Once we believe that, as a community we start to support each other, rather than destroy each other.  And ultimately we will realize that as individuals we are far greater than who we believe we are.

Mind and Speech, Five

Mind and Speech, Five

“Put off the former conversation, and then be renewed in the spirit of your mind.” If you put it off — it’s equated with the “old man.” Now, as I put it off, I have to replace it with something — a “new conversation”; so you are told in the Book of Joel: “Let the weak say, I am strong.” You read that in the 3rd chapter, the 10th verse. “Let the weak say, I am strong,” for there is no other God. “I am the Lord, and beside Me there is no god.” So, “I set before you,” — and you make the choice. You can choose life or you can choose death. You can choose the good or choose the evil, a blessing or a curse. It’s entirely up to man to choose anything. And look into this manifested world, and you’ll see what we have chosen.

But every morning you see headlines — nothing but disaster, you see what man has chosen. He seems either to want it or he is “fed” it, — one or the other. Look at the editorials. “We need that in order to sell papers,” Or else, we ourselves are demanding it from Him, but you “feed” upon it. Morning, noon and night we feast upon all this unloveliness and carry on these little internal mental conversations with ourselves; but they don’t remain there. They balloon and objectify themselves and become solidified as our manifested world.

So this whole manifested world goes to show us what use or misuse we have made of God’s gift. And God’s gift is your Mind and your Speech; and it’s not your outer speech, for we know how deceptive that is. You see it morning, noon and night. A salesman goes in, and he is trained to deceive the buyer. The advertiser is trained to deceive the buyer. And everything is on the outside. God sees only the inside. Man sees the outer appearance and God sees the Inner Man. So when you watch your inner conversation, you are actually watching the new nature. That is your nature. And if you don’t like it, change it. You “put off the old man,” and then “put on the new man”; and “He will show you the salvation of Gad.” Then the whole thing will unfold within you.

Mind and Speech, Four

Mind and Speech, Four

So I tell you, you watch carefully what you are saying morning, noon and night. When you go to bed at night, just watch your inner conversations, and see that the sun is not descending upon your anger. Resolve it at that very moment, and make it conform to your wish fulfilled, and make that “wish fulfilled” a. thing of love. What would it be like if it were true? Just what would it be like? Then carry on a conversation from the premise of the wish fulfilled, all clothed in love, for anyone that you think of; and watch how things happen in your world. Your night, — may I tell you — if that is your last thought, it will dominate the dream of the night, You are completely dominated, and your Father is speaking to you constantly through the medium of dreams and through the medium of vision, and you will see the whole thing unfolding within you; and you will know that you are the Lord Jesus Christ.

You don’t go out and scream it from the housetops. You know it, and you walk in the comfort of being the Awakened Man, who is God. Let everyone say exactly what he wants to say about you, and pay no attention to it, because they have to do it. When you come down to the end, they have to do it. The separation must take place. And you don’t justify it. Self-justification is the voice of hell. So you don’t justify anything, and you don’t try to always be right. Another almost incurable disease of man is the necessity of always being right. So you don’t make any effort to prove that you are right. You know what you have experienced, and you can’t deny the experience; so you go your way, telling it just as it comes to you. And it comes to you in the most glorious manner. It’s all in Scripture; so when you come to the end, you aren’t disappointed and you aren’t surprised that those that you sent off alive and free will now take up arms against you and call you insane, call you a devil, and would disrupt their family life. You know exactly what you’ve done. You have only told the truth. And when the Truth comes into the world, it comes not to bring peace but a sword. He is going to separate you from that traditional background that enslaved you in the past, because real progress in this world, — religious progress, — is a gradual transition from a god of tradition to a God of experience. You experience God: and the whole thing reflects it.

Mind and Speech, Three

Mind and Speech, Three

So I ask you to really apply it. Don’t think for one second that knowing what to do is going to do anything for you. It’s the doing it that matters. So, if every moment of time you know what to do, then do it. If you find yourself carrying on any negative conversation, break it, even though it gives you pleasure, as it does many people; they find such fun in being critical. They think they are alone and no one sees them; so it doesn’t matter. No one sees you? The only One that matters sees you every moment of time, and that’s your Father. He sees into the very depths of your Being, and He knows exactly what you are doing. And your world is built out of these inner conversations.

So, today if you are not satisfied with the world in which you live, blame no one, but turn within to these two gifts and use them wisely, for here we are told to order our life according to our conversations. Then in Ephesians we are told, — it’s the 4th chapter: “Put off the old nature which belongs to the former conversations, and put on the new nature.” The new nature is sometimes translated “the new man,” and the “old nature” the “old man.” Well, if I equate the “old nature” with the “former conversations,” I must equate the “new man” with the new conversation. He identifies the inner speech with man’s nature. So now, what am I actually doing on the inside of myself? And I am doing it morning, noon and night; I can’t stop it. If I stop for one moment, it isn’t. You can’t stop it. You take it into your dreams, and you are still talking. You are really talking at all moments of time.

So what are you saying at every moment of time? Watch it; be careful what you are saying, because your whole vast world is this inner conversation “pushed out.” And you can change it only by changing the conversation, because the conversation is equated with your nature.

So if you walk the street or you ride the bus, or you sit alone, you are still talking; at every moment of time you are talking. And all you need to do to find out what you have been saying is to look at your world. Your world reflects this inner speech. I have seen it every moment of time.  I am not going to tell you I have not faltered. I would not for one moment tell you that I am always in control of the inner conversations.
