As we first stated in part one of this biblical symbolism reference series, the Bible is an amazing book with a transcendent message that many believers are simply not aware of.
Emmet Fox was a minister and early New Thought movement leader who preached a message that the Bible contains a higher message above and beyond the basic message and if a person knew the keys to understanding, they could understand the transcendent message. In Emmet Fox's many books he mentions many of the symbolic interpretations of the Bible and after over a year of carefully reading each of Emmet Fox's books, I have catalogued his Biblical Symbols into this reference which will take the form of a series of posts. Bible
The word "Bible" means "the books." It is physically a collection of books, but metaphysically it is far more. It is a great vortex through which flows wonderful spiritual power into the individual soul who reads it with understanding.

The black horse stands for the intellect, and if you ride the black horse you will get famine or starvation of the soul.

Blood
The Bible frequently uses blood as a symbol for nephesh. Nephesh is a Hebrew word that implies self-conscious life. Nephesh is complex in meaning and includes the idea of inspiration, and the idea of fire which we know has been a symbol for spirit. Old testament people thought of the blood as being the vehicle of nephesh and for this reason the Bible frequently uses blood as a symbol for nephesh. In the New Testament, the blood of Jesus is used to symbolize the spirit and power of the Truth he taught.

The word "body" means the complete embodiment of the subject, and includes not only his physical body but all his material surroundings of every kind. The Great Law of human nature is that one's surroundings at any time are but the outer expression or out-picturing of his conscious (and subconscious) mind at the moment.

Every part of the body symbolizes some of our faculties. From the nose to the top of the forehead stands for intellect, just as self-esteem has the back portion of the head.

Bow and arrow
The bow and arrow is an ancient symbol of the spoken word. The spoken word brings things to pass. When you speak the word you shoot an arrow. It goes where you aim it and cannot be recalled, nor can it return void. Note that the word does not have to be spoken audibly, silent prayer is usually more effective than audible prayer unless you can't concentrate from worry or fear.

Christ
"Christ" is not a proper name. It is a title. It is a greek word meaning anointed or consecrated. It corresponds somewhat to the Hebrew term Messiah, and to the oriental word Buddha. "The Christ" may be defined as the spiritual truth about any person, situation, or thing. Jesus demonstrated the Christ in his own person and life to a greater extent than any other individual who has ever lived on this earth; and because of the work that he did in his crucifixion and resurrection has made it possible for us to reach spiritual heights that would otherwise have been quite out of our reach, he is justly termed the Messiah or Savior of the world.
